The novel, "Boston Jane" is about an improper eleven-year-old young lady who lives on Walnut Street in Philadelphia. William Baldt, a young man who came to Philadelphia to apprentice for Jane's father, suggested Jane go to Mrs. Hepplewhite's Young Ladies Academy. As the months passed Jane grew fond of William, but to her surprise he decided to move to Shoalwater Bay in the Washington Territory, so he could start a timber business. As the years slowly came and went, William finally wrote to Jane asking her to go to Shoalwater Bay and become his wife. She accepted the offer, and her journey to Shoalwater Bay was something she could never forget. When she reached Shoalwater Bay, she had not realized what she had gotten herself into.

To find out what happens, I suggest you read the book. I really liked it. It was very descriptive and it caught your attention so it kept you thinking. The novel also made it easy for you to paint a picture in your mind foe what is happening. I would highly recommend this book to girls from the age of ten and up because anyone younger might not be able to comprehend the text. I recommended girls because I think it was written to capture a girls imagination instead of a boy's. Another book you might want to read is "Across the Wide and Lonesome Prairie," by Kristina Gregory. (October, 2001)
