The Mini Page celebrates the anniversary of the 150th birth year of this outstanding leader with a story about his contribution to the education of blacks at Tuskegee Institute in Alabama.

Feb. 8 - Winter Olympic Sports Find out about sports events at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. Match the pictograms or symbols of the sport with the photos as readers learn about skiing, figure skating and other cool winter sports.

Feb 15 - Federalism The series about the Constitution continues with an issue about Federalism as presented on page 4 of the Constitution. The Mini Page works with the National Archives to present these facts to young readers.

Feb. 22 - Hello, George Washington Experts at Mount Vernon, George Washington's home, are concerned that many of the visitors are not aware of many interesting facts about this fascinating first president. Read this issue to find out some of what they think visitors should know.

March 1 - Therapy Dogs Volunteers and their pets lift people's spirits by visiting in nursing homes, hospitals and schools. When people get to pet an animal, they feel better. Therapy pets are great medicine.

March 8 - Information, Please The Mini Page celebrates Newspaper In Education Week with an issue that examines the way to read the newspaper and gain the skill of reading for information. Your newspaper is the very best source for up-to-date information!

March 15 -- Signers of the Constitution The convention that wrote our Constitution has been called the greatest meeting of wise men in history. Read about the delegates who signed this important document.

March 22 - Women's History Month The Mini Page celebrates Women's History Month with a story about Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross. The Mini Page also celebrates the 125th anniversary of the American Red Cross with a look at this organization that has been so much in the news lately.

Mar. 29 - Electricity From the Wind

April 5 - 2006 Caldecott and Newbery Winners The Mini Page celebrates National Library Week with stories about 2006 Caldecott winner Chris Raschka and 2006 Newbery winner Lynne Rae Perkins.

April 12 - Trees With Flowers Have you ever wondered if all trees flower
  or why some trees have big showy blossoms? Why don't some  flowering trees shower us with fruit and others do not? The Mini Page celebrates Earth Day and spring with a story about trees with flowers. 

April 19 - The Bill of Rights The Mini Page continues the Constitution Series with an issue about   the first l0 amendments to the Constitution, the Bill of Rights. Find out about  the background and why they  were added. These amendments include freedom of religion, speech, the  press, assembly and petition, limits of search and seizures, trial by  jury and others.

April 26 - National Poetry Month The Mini Page writes about one of the classical poets, Robert Louis Stevenson. And The Mini Page looks at some of the fun, thoughtful poetry books currently being published.

May 3 - Unusual Animal Moms The Mini Page celebrates Mother's Day with a story about mothers with unusual mothering behavior. Find our about hornbills, marmosets, pythons, sea turtles, langurs and birds of paradise. What do these mothers do that is so unusual?

May 10 - Constitution Amendments 11 through 27 The Mini Page ends its nine-part Constitution series with a story about the amendments added to the Constitution after the Bill of Rights. Find out about Amendment 14, that, next to the Bill of Rights, is the most important one to protect the rights of all citizens. Also, identify which amendment gives you the right to vote when you are 18.

May 17 - Biking The Mini Page celebrates Bike Month with a story about what's going on in this popular sport. Also, readers can take a safety checkup before they get out on the trail, path or road.

May 24 - The Marine Band On Memorial Day, we often honor heroes with parades and marching bands. Find out about the Marine Band, often called "The President's Own." Learn about the band’s instruments and the drum major. Learn how to identify the instruments as they march by.

May 31 - Pollination

June 7 - Summer Reading: Read a Good Movie The Mini Page looks at some classic books that have been made into movies. This summer, start a project and compare the movies to the books they were made from.

June 14 - Father's Day -- Following in Father's Footsteps The Mini Page looks at some adult kids who went into the same profession as their dads, including Wynton and Branford Marsalis and their dad Ellis, and Presidents Bush and Adams.

June 21 - Lightning Safety The Mini Page celebrates Lightning Awareness Week with tips on staying safe in a lightning storm.

June 28 - To Be A Honeybee Imagine if you were a honeybee. What would your life be like and what part would you play in the hive and honey making? Learn about parts of the hive and find out what the buzz is all about.

July 5 - Polite Words to Say The Mini Page celebrates July Fourth with a list of l00 polite words to say to encourage folks in the U.S. to get along and be cooperative citizens by saying nice things to one another.

July 12 - Be a Portrait Detective  Do you know how to look at a portrait and bring it to life? Mini Spy, our Mini Page detective, visited the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., to find out. You'll have a good time seeing if you know who are the portraits! 

July 19 - Digging in Your Back Yard The Mini Page talks with a soil expert and a bug expert to find out what soil is and what insects and other bugs you might find if you dig in your own back yard.

July 26 - Folk Art The Mini Page talked with Dr. Eleanor Harvey, chief curator of the Smithsonian American Art Museum to find out what folk art is, how to recognize it and to introduce several examples. The issue calls attention to the re-opening of the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
