Nov. 22, 2006: Table Manners
The Mini Page is a syndicated,
four-page tabloid written for young children found each Wednesday in the
Rocky Mountain News. This issue of The Mini Page is available through
the eEdition Archive to registered eEdition subscribers. Click here to learn about subscribing to the eEdition at no cost to you (for Colorado teachers).
Activities:
1. Cut out newspaper words
and pictures of things for which you are thankful. Make a Thanksgiving
Day collage with your pictures and words.
2. Cut out a large circle from
a piece of paper or get a paper plate. Look in the newspaper to find pictures
of different foods you would like to eat on Thanksgiving. Cut out the
pictures and paste them on your plate.
3. Interview at least three
family members or friends. Ask them to name two things for which they
are thankful. Circle any answers that are the same. Put a star by the
things that make you thankful, too.
4. Which of the behaviors shown
in today's Mini Page (a) could cause an accident, (b) could create problems
for another person at the dinner table, and (c) could make another person
at the table feel special?
5. Use resource books and the Internet to learn more about the Wampanoag tribe member Squanto. Use these questions to guide your research:
- Who was Squanto?
- What was his role in his tribe?
- How did he interact with the Pilgrims?
- Write a paragraph that describes Squanto and his life.
