Apr. 13, 2011: Meet Illustrator Erin Stead

The Mini Page is a syndicated, four-page tabloid written for young children found each Wednesday in The Denver Post. This issue of The Mini Page is available through the eEdition Archive to registered eEdition subscribers. Click here to learn about subscribing to the eEdition at no cost to you (for Colorado teachers).

Activities:

1. Use newspaper words and pictures to make a poster showing things you would like to write about if you were an author.

2. Design a newspaper ad for one of the books in today’s Mini Page.

3. Choose books in The Mini Page you would recommend to three different people in the newspaper.

4. Which author/illustrator (a) started at a young age, (b) works with children, and (c) writes about real people?

5. Select a title from one of the books in today’s Mini Page. Now write your own story for that title.

Mini Page activities meet many state and national educational standards. Each week we identify standards that relate to The Mini Page content and offer activities that will help your students reach them. This week's standards:

  • Students comprehend and respond to a variety of images and text.
  • Students identify forms and elements of literature (Language Arts: Reading)
