Mar. 2, 2011: Meet the Chimpanzee
The Mini Page is a syndicated, four-page tabloid written for young children found each Wednesday in The Denver Post. Activities:
1. Use newspaper words to make a collage about chimps.
2. Ask friends if they can name some ways that chimps are similar to people. Then share what you have learned from The Mini Page with your friends.
3. Circle three items in the newspaper that you think chimps would like to play with. Explain why.
4. How did these items/activities show that chimps are intelligent: (a) twig fishing rod, (b) oil can, (c) sign language, and (d) tripping another chimp?
5. Use the Internet to learn about chimps¹ relatives in the ape family. Write a paragraph about your findings. How are they like chimps? How are they different?
