Activities:

1. Choose a holiday/special event in The Mini Page. Make greeting cards for friends for that event.

2. Check the community calendar in your newspaper. What special events are celebrated in your community? How would you celebrate each event?

3. Select five special events in The Mini Page. Find special foods in the newspaper to celebrate each event.

4. For which holiday/event would you use (a) a ballot, (b) bright face makeup, (c) a hot dog and (d) a surfboard?

5. Use stories from local news, entertainment, sports and lifestyle pages to create four new holidays. Name your holidays and explain why they should be celebrated.

Mini Page activities meet many state and national educational standards. Each week we identify standards that relate to The Mini Page content and offer activities that will help your students reach them. This week's standard:

  • Students understand people and events honored in commemorative holidays.(History)
